Pony of the Americas.
"Childhood pony who along with Shorty, a Shetland, taught important lessons like how not to scraped off by a fence or tree branch, how to hang on when they run back home, how not to get stepped on when they try, and most important how to ride bareback for days on end. I had Micci in the back yard, and from age 7 until 11 rode bareback in South Miami neighborhoods, Biscayne Bay and in a 50-acre nursery featuring hammock trails, irrigation ditches to jump, mulch piles to run up and down, and tree rows to race through - an unusal Miami setting. The ponies were some of the best teachers!
Micci was a character: lived in the backyard and would get in the flowerbeds to provoke my mother, the garage refrigerator for mangos and she would nap outside the living room window waiting for me to finish practicing the piano so I could come out to ride."

Now a little grown up, this special neighborhood was zoned for one acre lots and many of the neighborhood girls had horses or ponies in the back yards.
